Oh dear. I love »Andromeda Strain«. I mean, love. The 130 minute virus thriller from 1971 is one of the most beautiful and claustrophobic films done (right next to »2001«) and of course I was stupid to believe that this year’s remake would make me happy. I saved it for some time and watched it yesterday. Shouldn’t have. Shouldn’t have.
The whole point of movie is the idea of these selected scientists being in lockdown, deep underground in a top secret facility, fighting against time to find a cure against the alien virus that’s threatening to destroy mankind. When you take the story out in the open and make it into a action miniseries, it just… Fails.
The intensity, the intimacy and the gorgeous late 70s futuristic design made the entire original what it is. So how could I fool myself into watching the remake? Here are some screenshots to help you remember why the movie shouldn’t be tainted by this summer’s miniseries.
