Ruralmancer

There’s brillant and then there’s brilliant. I’m not overly happy about William Gibson’s »Neuromancer« is being filmed by Britney Spears video director Joseph Kahn. Reading about artist Brody Condon’s rendition of it, I’m much more thrilled.

Case

He is to stage »Neuromancer« in a barn in rural Missouri. Case will be played by radical leftwing hippie Ray Radke (photo above) and the other roles will be filled by amateur performers from the local Baptist church. Here’s Condon’s project specification:

“The performance will be executed in the deadpan style of the videos of Raymond Pettibone. A distinct lack of emotion will be present, and some actors will read directly from the scipt.

All virtual reality scenes will be accompanied by a live band performing Indonesian Gamelan music, while all cyberspace environments will consist of moving, painted cardboard props.”

A film with images of the barn, some advice on heroin from the main actor and a swordfight is available at Condon’s site.

Can this be anything else but brilliant?
