It’s obvious The Unknown Man is the Unsub

Flipping through Spanish El Pais, I find an ordinary photo from an ordinary day in parliament. Or is it? Something bad is about to happen. And I know who will be responsible.

El Pais

At first glance, there’s nothing new here. Suited men. A folder with legislation under the arm. A friendly approach from the man to the left who wants to be BFF with the more important man to the right.

El PaisBut… Look in the background.

How mysterious can you get? The man doesn’t look at the two in front of him. He doesn’t look at the camera. He gazes at a point far behind the camera.

I know what happens next. A shot rings out from somewhere upstairs. Someone dies. In the aftermath, as police go through documentation, someone looks at this image and says: “Oh my God! He was there!”

Kind of like The Observer in “Fringe”. Or a fuzzy close-up of some detail from a Dealey Plaza super-8.

The Unknown Man may not be as important as the two men closest to the camera, but he strikes the perfect pose for a black-and-white newspaper photo.
